The Server Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading the server systems to ensure optimal server performance.  The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-users assistance as required.  This is a salary position, on call rotation for after-hours is required.

Salary Range: $52,000 – $80,000

Job Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future server hardware needs.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on server products in support of procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.
  • Write technical specifications for purchase of server hardware and related products.

Operational Management

  • Assist personnel with installation, configuration and ongoing usability of system hardware and software.
  • Offer daily operations and systems support to clients.
  • Verify functionality of hardware and software components.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in person, remotely and via phone.
  • Assist clients with computer problems and answer their questions.
  • Conduct daily backup verification and testing.
  • Ensures that requests for support are responded to in a timely manner and according to agreed standards and procedures.
  • Ensures users and other relevant parties are kept informed of progress and that advice is sought where needed to avoid or minimize delays.
  • To assist in the support of the Client’s servers and related backend systems, voice and data communications, application software and escalation support of desktop systems.
  • Assist in the production of required documentation for the supported systems and applications.
  • Participate in the After Hours On-Call rotation.

  • Monday – Friday, 08:00 am – 05:00 pm

  • Reliable and suitable transportation that can be used as required to perform job   Motorcycles are not acceptable.

Education and Experience Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • 2 year’s occupational experience in a network/server management role.
  • Experience of server installations, migrations and OS builds.
  • LAN & WAN administration, including switch, router and firewall configuration and administration.
  • Understanding of the concepts and applicability of routing, virtual networks, network addressing régimes, subnet masking.
  • Understanding and ability to use TCP/IP and associated protocols and tools (DNS, DHCP, PING etc.).
  • Administration and Management of Windows Servers.
  • Administration and Management of Active Directory Domain.
  • An understanding and practice of general management concepts, customer care, and project management.

Formal Education & Certification

  • College/Tech School diploma or university degree in the field of server information systems and/or 2 year’s equivalent server work experience.
  • Certifications: CompTIA Server+, MCSA: Windows Server Certification, CompTia Network +, CISCO: CCNA

The Desktop Technician’s role is to provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the organization’s desktop computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user assistance as required.  This position is an hourly position.

Hourly Pay Range:  $18.00 - $25.00

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on desktop products in support of PC procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.
  • Write technical specifications for purchase of PCs, desktop hardware and related products.

Operational Management

  • Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop problems for end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including offsite repair for remote users as needed.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related hardware and software in order to deliver required desktop service levels.
  • Assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to PC boxes, including the installation of CPUs, I/O and NIC cards, hard disks, ribbon cables, hard drives, RAM, memory chips, CD-ROMs, and so on.
  • Collaborate with LAN technicians/network administrators to ensure efficient operation of the company’s desktop computing environment.
  • Where required, administer and resolve issues with associated end-user workstation networking software products.
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls or tickets regarding desktop problems.
  • Accurately document time in PSA Ticketing System as work is completed.
  • If necessary, liaise with third-party support and PC equipment vendors.
